THE KARLSSON CONSULTING MISSION
Karlsson Consulting provides top quality information technology consulting and professional contract services through our Staff of experienced computer consultants and independent contractors. At Karlsson Consulting, we integrate the highest ethical and professional standards with continued profitability and hands-on community involvement to create a quietly successful, uniquely dynamic company.
WHAT MAKES KARLSSON CONSULTING UNIQUE
We are a small company by design. Instead of focusing on rapid growth and expansion, we simply concentrate on providing top quality technology services for our Clients and personal growth and development for our Staff. Unlike many consulting companies, Karlsson operates in an extremely participatory fashion. Our Staff has the opportunity for substantial involvement in the way Karlsson Consulting does business through semi-annual Planning Sessions, Staff Meetings, internal project teams, and Staff membership on the Karlsson Consulting Management Team.
ENGAGEMENT PARAMETERS
At Karlsson Consulting, we go to unusual lengths to find our Staff rewarding engagements. To do this, we develop, and update at least twice annually, Engagement Parameters that define the preferences and priorities of each Staff Member. The Engagement Parameters address the following areas:
The Engagement Parameters are then used to create an individualized Marketing Plan, which is used to locate engagements that match, as closely as possible, the preferences and priorities of the Engagement Parameters.
While no consulting company can guarantee a perfect engagement, we believe that by asking our Staff for their preferences; listening to what they say; and then matching their preferences against available engagements based on that information, we have the best chance of meeting their needs. This also helps us better meet our Clients' needs; when we match our Staff to engagements in this way there is a stronger likelihood of Staff satisfaction, which enables us to keep our commitments to our Clients.
WHERE OUR PROFITS GO
At Karlsson Consulting, we allocate our profits to the following areas:

WHAT WE DO
Since 1984, we’ve been providing professional consulting and contract services to medium and large companies primarily in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area in the following areas of expertise:
· Analysis, design, programming and testing of business applications · IBM Mainframe (COBOL, CICS and DB2) · Client/Server (including such technologies as ORACLE, SYBASE, VISUAL BASIC, .Net, C++, POWERBUILDER, and MicroFocus COBOL) · Web Development · Feasibility Studies · Professional Development Training · Project Leadership and Management
WE’RE INTERESTED IN YOU
Unlike many consulting companies, we don’t believe in hiring specifically for a particular project. We believe that this rapid-fire approach does not always result in the optimum situation for the Client and the Consultant. Instead, we spend a great deal of time looking for experienced people who share our high ethical and professional standards because we believe that character is equally important as technical expertise. While our approach may seem unusual, we believe that it is one of the reasons for our extremely low turnover. In fact, the average tenure of a Karlsson Consulting Staff Member is about ten years, and the Staff averages over sixteen years of IT experience. Since 1984, despite the volatility of the technology marketplace, we have been able to keep our Staff through downturns in the economy because we believe that our Staff is our most important asset.
INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
An Individual Development Plan (IDP) is developed with each Staff Member, and then updated twice annually. Uniquely, the IDP is based on what the Staff Member wants to do professionally, not what the Company thinks the Staff Member needs. Working together, we then develop an action plan to help the Staff Member reach their goals. Agreement on the action plan includes a commitment (financial and otherwise) from Karlsson to achieve the desired results.
ESTABLISHING ENGAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS
We take extraordinary measures to match the expectations of our Clients with those of our Staff Members. At the beginning of each engagement, we develop engagement objectives with the Client and the Staff Member. On a monthly basis, we discuss the engagement with both the Client and the Staff Member. This provides value to the Client, because we can ensure we are meeting their expectations. It provides value to the Staff Member, because they get regular feedback on their performance. And it provides value to Karlsson Consulting, because we can ensure a successful engagement and quality to our Clients.
A MEMBER OF THE NACCB
Karlsson Consulting is a member of the NACCB (National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses). The NACCB was founded in 1987 to work for higher standards and good business practices in the computer consulting field. The NACCB is the only national association that represents companies who specialize in providing skilled professionals to Clients in need of temporary high-tech staff. NACCB member companies are technically sophisticated, specialized mid-size consulting firms with a strong record of achievement and a commitment to the highest standards of service. NACCB members are equal opportunity employers.
